Canada- India Trade Round Table Conference
September 26, 2016, Ottawa
At: John A. MacDonald Building (Parliament Hill)
Theme: ” Harnessing Canada – India Commercial Relations –
A new Era of Cooperation ”
Indo Canada Ottawa Business Chamber (ICOBC), is pleased to partner with Canada –
India Business Council (C-IBC) and the Indian High Commission in Ottawa to bring
together key stakeholders to a roundtable related to the current impediments in
growing Indo-Canadian Trade in the context of the ongoing Comprehensive Economic
Partnership Agreement ( CEPA) negotiations.
In the current era of burgeoning trade opportunities between Canada and India, it is
very important that the CEPA is signed and implemented in a timely fashion to serve
as a catalyst for building momentum in the Indo-Canadian trade and investment
corridor. Various sectors in both economies are well poised for collaborating and
growing together.
Canada and India have long standing bilateral relations built upon shared traditions
of democracy, pluralism and strong interpersonal connections with an Indian
diaspora community of more than one million in Canada.
Key Objective:
The objective of the Conference is to bring together the key stakeholders in the Canada
India trade corridor and allow the voice of industry to be heard on matters relating to
barriers to bilateral trade and investment. Government trade promoters and
policymakers would respond to the industry input and take issues under
advisement for future action.
Key Deliverable:
ICOBC and C-IBC will orchestrate the session through “facilitators” to ensure the
input is effectively recorded. A summary of the proceedings will be provided to all
participants and serve as a reference point for government trade policy officials and negotiators as our bilateral trade engagement evolves.
The Roundtable conference in Ottawa will bring together various stakeholders, around 30 – 40 participants, including reps from the Business Council of Canada, local companies (such as EION, D-TA Systems, TaraSpan – ICT Working Group participants, SNC, Bombardier, MDS Aero, CAE, ), representatives from the Federal and Provincial government, (MP and MPPs), the government of Canada’s senior executives from Global Affairs Canada , senior representatives from the Indian High Commission and an Indian Trade Association representing Indian companies. The Round table will provide a common platform and give an opportunity to have an open dialogue.
The Roundtable discussion, with all delegates participating, will be held in the morning session. The reaction/responses from the Canadian Government, Indian Government, Indo Canada Ottawa Business Chamber, Canada – India Business Council, an Indian Trade Association will take place in the afternoon session. Global Affairs Canada could also outline key upcoming initiatives by the Canadian Government.
